Looking younger isn’t just about working out

For some people looking good seems to come naturally, and I sure do wish I was one of those people. I work hard for looking the way I do. (If only I did look good) Working out is as important as getting enough sleep is as important as eating right, etc. These are only pieces of the overall puzzle.
I write about my workouts all the time, so I thought I would do something different and write about my morning ritual. It may seem a bit “metrosexual” or even seriously vain, but if you know me, would you expect anything less?
I guess I’ll talk of the morning shower first. First thing I do grab my shampoo. I typically use one which has been specifically designed for daily washing. (some days I shower 2-3 times depending on workouts) These types of shampoos tend to not strip nutrients and leave my hear dry and frizzy. Also, I don’t run into bouts of dry scalp. Good shampoo is important, and you should not buy the cheapest thing at the grocery store. (Most are practically dish soap) Go to a salon, talk to your hair dresser, and find out what shampoo is best for you. (I typically use Nexxus Therappe or American Crew Daily Shampoo) [I also use quality hair product for styling, be careful what you use, it may do more damage to your scalp and hair than you think]
I strongly recommend using great soap as not all soaps are created equal. Ivory, Zest, even Lever 2000 leave my skin feeling really dry. (And I use a good wash cloth, not a scrunchy ball) Lately I really have been using the “Kiss My Face” brand of soaps. (Specifically the SUDZ Sports Bar) They leave me feeling clean, smelling good, and they don’t drive my oversensitive skin nuts.
A good facial regimen is super important too. You should not be washing your face with the same soap you wash the rest of your body. (At least I don’t like to) For several years I have been using different facial cleansers, and skin toners. Recently (well for 2 years) I have been using Zia Fresh Cleansing Gel with Sea Algae. It does a really nice job keeping my face clean and not over drying my skin. I then follow up with a skin toner I pick up at Common Scents. (a house brand with aloe and witch hazel) To keep the crows feet and smile lines away, I use a revitalizing eye cream. (Avalon Organics Vitamin C sun-aging defense)
As a guy this may seem like a lot to do, but I like the fact that most people don’t believe I am 36 years old.
I don’t expect that what works for me will be the best thing for you, but it is a good place to start if you are not doing anything. It took me a long time to dial in my regimen, and I am still looking to improve it. The balance of cost vs. quality are always in my mind, but most importantly, the products had better work.
Hey, what’s wrong with a scrunchyball?!?!
I wish you could convince Glenn to take care of his skin…I’ve been working on him and he at least uses my night cream now, but he’s got mega sun damage! Go metrosex him up, Rob!
Dude, you are such a chick.
Maybe, but at least I am a chick who doesn’t look my age.
Special thanks to Butt@Nugget.com for weighing in on Rob’s beauty routine. (Post not published.) I can assure you, fine sir, his balls are plenty big enough… And smooth as a baby’s behind!
