What do restaurants have to do with healthy living? I think a lot, especially if you spend several nights a week enjoying the wonderful creations around the city.
Tonight we popped into Velvet Cantina, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Mission. What you can expect from the VC? Great nachos (yes they are made on site), really good salsa and great appetizers.
Today’s run included the following:
- Pitcher of the House Margarita. (Sauza, fresh lime juice, Triple Sec, Ice. MMMMMMmmmm)
- Shrimp Coconut-Pineapple Ceviche (Smurf said it was like a Chilled Tom Gha Soup with Pineapple)
- Corn Meal Sopas w/ Chicken (very tasty corn tarts made with MEAT!)
- Avocado Chicken Enchiladas (Awesome Jalapeno Crème sauce, black beans, rice. Goodness)
- Shrimp Diablo (Super spicy Shrimp in a red sauce, and tasty rice)
What we skipped because we were to damn stuffed! Mexican Smores Nacho’s. All I can say is, “Oh my god Becky!” They are so good. Fresh made nacho’s smothered in Mexican Chocolate, and marshmallows. And they set the whole mess ablaze in the table in front of you. (Don’t be touching up the hair with Aquanet while this is being server!)
This place is a great stop! Check it out!

I love this place! Ate here the day after my birthday and they brought us a free plate of those mexican s’mores, so good!

I should point out, because I find it so adorable in a fucked-up Cleveland way, that when Rob talks about “nachos,” he means just the tortilla chip itself. So, he could have nachos on one day and nachos with cheese on another and the two snacks would be entirely different and not really redundant. (I also pointed out that, unless said chips belong to a fellow named Nacho, there is no apostrophe, but we’ll let that one slide.)
So, what do you call them? Nachos or Tortilla Chips (or just Chips)? We can draw a line in the sand and start a war over it!
