Yeah, yeah, so… I broke my foot. Technically, I have a “stress fracture of the second metatarsal.” Which I’m thrilled to report is also called the “Beckham Bone” after one David Beckham who broke his in a slide tackle trying to win the World Cup. I just broke mine being a dumbfuck.
Here’s the thing… everything you read says, “Don’t increase running by more than 10% of total mileage per week.” “Yes, but I am doing so WELL! Certainly such rules don’t apply to ME!” I think I might have even read something that said, “Even if you are doing well and don’t think this rule applies to you, IT DOES!” It’s not like I intentionally packed on mileage, but I did exceed the recommended rate of increase, and now I’m paying for it.
So, let me put it this way… I have magical powers and can tell that YOU, yes YOU dear reader, should not increase your mileage by more than 10% per week, no matter how great you feel. Trust me. Jesus passed me a note in study hall with your name on it.
At any rate, what does this mean for me? I’m not to run at all or walk more than a mile for the next 2.5 weeks- since I’d already taken 2.5 weeks waiting for a diagnosis, I don’t have to do any of the assy stuff like wearing a boot and I’m already halfway through the rest period. I hope that I will be ramped back up for the US Half Marathon, which, thankfully is is November, not October like I’d thought. And, in the meantime, I signed up for a month of Bikram at Mission Yoga (which, incidentally, offers a Men’s Naked Yoga class on Tuesdays!) Let me tell you- if I thought Funky Door stunk to high heaven, it’s got nothing on Mission Yoga. But, it’s really inexpensive for Bikram and super convenient. I can walk there if I want since it’s a mile each way, so when I start adding some walk/jog mileage that will be nice.
I am also back on the food tracking bandwagon after a little bit of a down-in-the-mouth few weeks and prepping to see a nutritionist next week to start getting my fueling ready for me to start running again.
So, things are looking up… minor hurdle, but nothing insurmountable!
