Been caught in my own little world lately
Life has been a blur. Between working out, work, and general living I can’t seem to find the time to get everything I want done. (Anyone have an extra few hours I can add to my day?) The past few weeks I have committed to training harder, to teach at a Martial Arts Seminar in Rochester, NY, to try to up my soccer game, and to get into fighting shape so I can compete in a few tournaments or maybe even a professional fight. (What a run on sentence) All this while working, trying to keep my other half from killing me, and still finding time to relax.
The good and the bad of being so busy is that I have not been going out and abusing my body as much. I am lucky to get out 2 times a week. (Well, for me that isn’t much) So, to all my friends, I am sorry to be such a sudden hermit, but I had to prioritize some things over others. (What the hell? Is this responsibility creeping into my life, WTF?)
I did get to go out last night for a short while to wish a Happy Birthday to a wonderful little lady, Laura Benson. (She and her Fiancé are really great people) The best part of an event like last night is that it was full of great people. (A shout out to the SFKM) So, I did get to catch up with a bunch of people I have not seen in a while. (Yeah!)
It was a night of wacky karaoke (would you expect anything less), unique conversation (someone was recently stabbed, unique ways to help the homeless, and a friends intolerance of young coke heads taking to much time in bar bathrooms), and yummy meatballs. (Thanks VIPWeb, nice job) There was a comment I inadvertently made to Roger 9er (KJ Extraordinaire) that I woke up thinking about. He pushed on my chest and then commented that he needed to start working out. (My pectorals are inspirational!) My reply was, “I can help you, but it will be a lot of hard work.”
I didn’t say this to imply that it would take a Herculean effort to get him into shape. Rather I instinctively said it takes hard work to get great results. And maybe this is the point of this post. That it takes hard work, effort, and dedication to initiate any kind of change in your life. It doesn’t matter if you want to get fit, find the time to manage your blog, or just find time to be with the person you care about, you have to make an effort. Sometimes we get set on cruise control, or we let outside influences have to much control of how we do things or what we do. We each have to make the choice to make that change and not half ass it. Heck, if it is worth doing it should be worth doing well. (Not sure if this philosophy counts for Karaoke though)
Possibly the biggest issue I have with “half assing it” is that it has a high probability of turning you into a Mission Hipster. (Just go to Amnesia, El Rio, or the Knock Out some night to see what I am talking about. Maybe it is an over generalization, but hipsters flock to these particular bars) [And before anyone asks, I didn't mention Annie's because it is a Punk bar and live music venue, not a hang out for the tragically un-hip]
Can you tell I have not written anything a while? I am all over the place. Well more to come tomorrow.
