Fitness for Real Life…

This is the day your life will surely change…

November 10th, 2008 by Smurf · No Comments

I’ve been in a funk lately. A royal, royal funk. Call it post-race blues, post-election disillusionment, post-flu crappy… off-my-plan pissedness. I’ve just been in a real unpleasant mood, as my esteemed co-blogger can tell you. But, NO MORE! I woke up this morning singing the perennial favorite from late-80’s visionaries The The: This is the day, your life will surely change. This is the day, when things fall into place.

I have 6 weeks to drop 7 pounds and arrive at my birthday a gleeful 125 lbs. And, as of today, I have 257 days left until I toe the line at my first full marathon! Yes, as of this morning, I am officially registered for the San Francisco Marathon. With a few other races thrown in between now and then and some base-building used as backfill, that should pretty much lock in my training through August of next year.

I’m also a little more excited than I should be about a decision I made recently to start waking up at the ungodly hour of 6 and get my run in before work. Most of you know I have a serious teenybopper crush on the city of San Francisco, and I can’t imagine a better way to “start my day meditating on gratitude” than watching the sun come up from the top of Dolores Park. As you may imagine, it’s a lil’ tough to feel grateful on the after-7PM-nighttime-Valencia-Corridor-sidewalk, but I imagine it’s positively serene at 6AM, aside from the requisite bums and post-bar vomit. I also know that this is going to allow me to increase my weekday run distance and training intensity while spending more quality weekday-evening time with my second-biggest teenybopper crush! So, all-in-all, good stuff.

I look forward to keeping you all abreast as I power towards my Dec. 20 goal, and hopefully celebrating with many of you once I get there!

In other news, I got my photos back from the US Half Marathon!

Me on the bridge at about Mile 8 or so, the fellow in the maroon shorts is a friend on the RunnersWorld Online message boards and spotted me here in the background. Look, Ma, I’m smiling!

Woo hoo! Still on the bridge- kinda miffed that I’m the only girl on the planet every to get runner’s cameltoe from a Running Skirt! Blasted rain and headwind!

Coming through Chrissy Field with the Bridge behind me. Seriously.

All done!!
