Men and Women trying to lose weight, listen up! You are not alone.
You are reading this because you are one of the normal people who wants to get more fit. I say “get more fit,” because some people want to lose weight, some want to add definition, and some of you want to put on muscle mass. All of you want to improve your fitness level, and are looking for that “magical something” to make it happen.
Well, here’s the secret. 99% of you already have what it takes to get more fit. You are reading this, and this shows me you have the desire to make a change. Now we have to make that desire an action, then a habit.
It won’t be easy. Embrace that. You will not always eat or drink what you want. At least until your goals are met. (We can help you balance reality and perception) You will learn to eat better, eat enough, and know how to say no. (And what to do when you sometimes say yes) And finally, if you are trying to tone up, and get fit; you will sweat. You will learn how to push yourself to new limits, and you will learn that you are in control of your own fitness fate. (could be a life lesson too if you want, but this post isn’t about that)
Over the last several years, Smurf and I have come to some sobering conclusions. (I say sobering because sometimes even we try to delude ourselves)
- You need to DECIDE you want to live a healthier lifestyle and COMMIT to it.
- You need to track your food and calorie count if you want to successfully lose weight. PERIOD.
- The workout programs are secondary to eating right! (I can’t believe I am saying that)
- What you do the other 23 hours a day is more important than the 1hr you are working out.
- If you want to be uber fit, and ripped, THEN diet + exercise is the way to go.
The only thing stopping you from being successful is you. So, get the hell out of your own way. Stop thinking you know what to do, and accept the direction and advice from people who have been doing this a LONG time. (If you knew what you were doing, would you be in the spot you are in?) This DOES NOT mean you don’t have accountability. You are 100% accountable for your success.
Ok, now that I put the burden of success on you (heh), let me reiterate. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Just because you are responsible for your fitness fate, does not mean you can’t have help and support. Guess what this blog and all its members are. Yep, 100% help and support. (With the occasional snarky comment)
We want you to succeed. We will do what we can to keep you motivated, introduce you to new fitness concepts and give you real world advice on food and fitness. The rest is up to you. So keep reading, keep commenting, and keep letting us know what you need.
We don’t do this for our health. Oh wait, YES WE DO!

Just what I needed to read after a four-week diet-and-exercise hiatus (resulting in a full backslide of the weight I lost pre-vacay)! (How the heck do people run on the East Coast in the summer? ACK.) Strapped my BodyBugg back on, logging my food again, and starting back on the running track on Monday. ONWARD!
