The Paleo diet is yet another bullshit marketing fad.

Wikipedia defines this stupidity as: “The paleolithic diet (abbreviated paleo diet or paleodiet), also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a modern nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various hominid species habitually consumed during the Paleolithic era—a period of about 2.5 million years which ended around 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture and grain-based diets. In common usage, such terms as “paleolithic diet” also refer to the actual ancestral human diet”

This “1970′s” marketed diet, has been proven by the scientific community to be based more on nostalgia than fact.

Every year that goes by, we, as a community , become better informed as to what we, as omnivorous, should be consuming to fuel our bodies.  This is 100% dictated by our daily output.  What our individual activity is based on our overall exertion level.  Glomming onto some “Diet” because it is “better for us” without a reason to be “on that diet” is plain STUPID.  Granted, I think the Paleo diet is as dumb as any other of the low carb/fad/purge diets out there.

The simple truth is this.  We don’t need to have a fad diet based on some “recently video’d fit guys”  mumbo jumbo.  we need scientific fact. Simply put (Unless you have a medical condition such as a thyroid problem), to lose weight you need to be at a calorific deficit, to gain weight you need to be in a surplus.  Your diet should not be overloaded with fats or carbs , and the average person will be very healthy with a 30/30/40 (Fats/Carbs/Protien) ratio IF they are not eating more calories than they burn in a given day.  (Based on your INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY)

Your brain needs fats to work, your body needs carbs to maintain energy stores and you need protein to rebuild your body from basic use!  If you go on a diet which deprives you of any of these necessary nutrient sources, you are hurting yourself.

I am not saying to “Avoid”  a food source on a given diet plan, what I am saying is be aware of what you eat.  Research what you are putting in your mouth, and define a fueling plan for your lifestyle.  If you don’t work out, and you sit around all day, know that if you eat a ton of protein, carbs or fat every day (more than you burn on a daily basis) you will be storing extra calories, and eventually end up being over weight, if not obese.  Your choice, deal with the consequences.

Knowing what you eat and how much you eat isn’t difficult.  It just takes a bit of awareness.  If you are unwilling to pay attention, then be prepared to deal with the consequences.  Possible type 2 diabetes, heart issues, liver issues, arthritis,  chronic pain, etc.   In the end it is your call.  To be healthier, or to be a burden to our healthcare system, as  you are  dealing with a problem that could have  been avoided.

Me, I am about being “pretty healthy.”  I am not so far to the left or the right of center.  I, as an omnivore, maintain somewhere around 10-15% body fat at all times, and am able to do whatever I want when I want.  Without some Bullshit self induced health risk.  Yeah, that’s right.  I take my well being into my own hands.

Time to add a little Insanity to FitFight

As you might have guessed by now, I am a big fan of many of the Beach Body Products. So much so that I have spent the time and money to become a P90X Certified Coach. Well, above and beyond that, I have opened a fitness facility where I teach P90X live classes. I have spent the last 100 days training someone, and I am doubly impressed with how amazing this program works. I know what it did for me, but for the first time, I got to take someone through the 90 days, and see the changes in him. Ok, Amazing may not be the right word. Stellar, incredible, fantastic, are all the proper word as well. Michael came into FitFight in decent shape, and now he looks like a gymnast. He came in every week, put the time and handwork in, and his results were inspiring. (Another great descriptor)

Now we are doing Insanity at FitFight. I may not be certified in it (yet), but it is a fantastic program, and I will spend the next 60 days getting ripped. If Michael does what he did during the P90X cycle, well, I suspect there will be some crazy marketing material for FitFight in March!
