Today was dedicated to ground fighting. After a 5 hour day of throwing and being thrown by Serge, I will admit I was concerned about the condition of my body. Much to my delight, Igor took us through about an hour of warm ups. It was great, and just what I needed after yesterday. We went through a number of stretches and exercises I knew, and a number I have never done before. After we finished, I was ready to go for 3 hrs of ground fighting.
I have to say I lucked out again on day 2.

I guess it is fitting that I get to do the 100th, especially after the day I have had. (Though Smurf really does deserve this prestigious spot, as she has nearly double the posts I do.)
Well, to my day. I got up this morning WAY early, I mean, 8:00am the day after the 4th of July. (Yilkes) I did this so I could be ready for the 1st day of a SAMBO seminar run by Igor Kurranoy. I expected a rough time, and it met every expectation I had. The first 2.5 hrs were all Jacket throws, and not soft pansy throws. Every throw was a bone jarring, rib cracking, body bruising, concussive slam to the ground. (I think I was thrown 300+ times today) Now, had I worked with anyone else, I may have gotten off easier, as a poorly executed throw can hurt, but a perfectly executed one is guaranteed to. So, I spent the entire day working with Serge Gerlach, the guy who is currently teaching me SAMBO. (Yeah, he is real good, and he doesn’t botch a throw often)

I have been a P90X user since late November 2007, which puts me at near 8 months of using the beach body systems. (This was written on 6/9/2008) I became a coach on 2/25/2008, and since then have spent my time working out, getting my friends motivated, and working with Smurf to get our fitness Blog off the ground. (Ok, there has been a lot of partying, drinking, karaoke, seeing friends, and other life related events)
Now for the comment that you guys may have been expecting,
Not a bad Satuday afternoon, if I do say so myself. We had 10 of us at FitLifeSF HQ, where 6 peeps did their fitness test. I’d say that was the highlight, but as fun as it was, the BBQ was way better!
Grilled Chicken, Dry Rub BBQ Brisket, grilled veggies! Best put: It was DAMN tasty!
Thanks for everyone who made it! We have decided to make this a montly event! We will announce the next fitness test for early July, later this month. So, stay tuned, and let us know if you want to join us!
(We are considering doing the test at the top of Bernal Hill!)

Ok Peeps, the first ever all viewer fitness test is going to happen this weekend! I am shooting for Saturday afternoon. Anyone local who wants to get together to do these with Smurf and I, well contact us and let us know you want to come by.
I warn you, this is a workout in itself. I’ll post the test so we can all post our results!
(You will need measuring tape, a pull up bar, a floor, a wall, a stop watch and heart rate monitor [optional]) We will also be busting out the calipers to do body fat checks!
For me the title statement can be applied to all parts of my life, so I am going to really narrow it down to just a few of my fitness experiences.
I think I was pretty fortunate early in my fitness “career.” The summer before I began high school (was 1986 that log ago?) I began doing Mantis Kung Fu, and because of this I met a number of people who “had a clue” about training. The other really memorable thing that happened that summer; I was introduced to Gene Weiss who ran a fitness Club in Euclid, OH. (Talk about sipping from a fire hose, this guy knew his shit! AND NO WISE CRACKS!) So on or around the same time I began to take “getting in shape” seriously, I was able to blend what I was learning about stretching, intent and form from martial arts, with the weight training techniques and exercise plans I was getting at Gene Weiss’s Raquettime. (The first real gym I went to) Who knew that some 20 years later, everything I was taught still would have significant value?
