Kaiser Half Marathon Race Report

Yeah, yeah, yeah… it’s late.  So was I.  It’s gonna be lackluster, but… you know.  It’s a theme.  I figure I want to excel at something, why not make it mediocrity?

So, the Kaiser Half Marathon was a really tough race for me.  As you know if you follow this blog, it was the first half marathon I planned to really put in a full training and tapering cycle for, but was sidelined by a mysterious ankle injury two weeks out.  I really had hope in the back of my mind that the two weeks off to get the ankle in running shape would get me to the line so well rested and amped on running again that I’d just fly through the course to my goal of 1:59:59.

Run Wild for a Child 10K Race Report

I’m back from the Run Wild for a Child 10K in Golden Gate Park. Woke up this morning feeling really kind of crappy- nervous tummy and a lil’ barfy and just generally weak. Visions of every greasy/heavy meal and overindulgent cocktail outing of the past 3 days weighing heavy on my frame. Ugh! Went down to Golden Gate Park, thinking it would be easy

enough to street park in my old ‘hood. (6th and Fulton.) I was getting nervous that I was running late when I rolled up at 8AM and did one loop- no parking. Did another loop- still no parking! Finally decided to drive away from the park and pull into the first spot I see. Of course my nerves are in overdrive at this point. Why didn’t I just leave a few minutes early? I’ve been painfully early to all my other races. (Indicator # 345 that I didn’t take this race as seriously as I should have.)

Want to Get Your Feet Wet with a Tri?

I’ll admit, a triathlon sounds kind of appealing to me.  Then again, I don’t think I remember how to ride a bike and every time I see the Team in Training folks swimming at Aquatic Park, I question their sanity.  But, hey!  What are extreme acts of fitness for if not making others question our sanity?

Well, if you have found yourself interested in undertaking a triathlon, Sports Basement Presido has an event just for you:

Bridge to Bridge 12K Race Report- Smurf’s First Race!

I am officially no longer a race virgin!  Here’s the (lengthy) race report:

Bridge to Bridge was a bit of a last-minute thing for me.  I was training “just to finish” the US Half Marathon on November 2, and added the B2B because I wanted to work out any kinks on a shorter distance, plus it was for a good cause.

Folosm Street Fair was a Load of Fun!

Rob was the keeper of the video     camera, so no doubt he’ll have loads more pics to come, in the meantime, here we are, all dressed up and ready to go!

In other news ROB GOT ME A GARMIN!

I’ll be taking it on its first run tonight and post more at a later date.

Yes, ladies and gents, ’tis that time again! Time to break out the assless chaps, dust off that little piggy nose and curly tail plug for the bottom of your choice and hit the streets in the largest leather and fetish event in the world (it’s true, I looked it up online)- Folsom Street Fair!

I’m officially all bibbed up!

I just signed up for my first race ever, the Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge 12K, which is taking place on October 5.  According to Runner’s World magazine, it is one of the most scenic runs in the country, starting at The Ferry Building (under the Bay Bridge, for those who like things spelled out) and heading down the EMB, through Fisherman’s Wharf, through the Marina Green and Chrissy Field to the Presidio (under the Golden Gate Bridge, for those of you who still need your morning coffee.)  The timing is right in line with where I need to be distance-wise to consider the US Half Marathon on November 2, and just days before we leave for Sherri and AT’s wedding in New Orleans, so I’ll feel (hopefully!) all fit and accomplished heading into a debaucherous week.

In other news, I am down a really solid 5 pounds since starting with the nutritionist.  Looking forward to being down 10 by the US Half Marathon and then getting rid of the last 5 before the end of the year!  It is tough going sometimes, but is becoming second nature.  It’s still the lure of quality cocktails that is the hardest to resist.
