Women, Concerned About Getting Bulky on P90X?

This is one comment that we get often on this blog… Women concerned with getting bulky or “looking like a man” if they do P90X or any weight work.  Let me assure you that this concern is totally unfounded.

FitLifeSF Challenge- The Halfway Point!

We are 5 weeks (a little more) into the new year… do you know where your goals are? We got in touch with the FitLifeSF Challenge contestants to find out how they were doing, and here is a little bit of an update.

Remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Even if it’s a marathon.

The Wall Street Journal today weighs in on the increasing number of  “one-and-done” marathoners.  (We runners also call them “Bucket Listers.”)  Some very good points are made, including:

- In the world of fitness, doing a little every day for the rest of your life is WAY better than killing yourself for four months and then taking five years off.

- Eating like you’re still training for a marathon after you’ve finished is, well, a really bad idea.

- Despite the glamour associated with the marathon, the most popular race distance in the country is 5K (3.1 miles)- a totally fun and do-able distance that is less likely to lead to injury and/or mental fatigue.

- The real victory is not in crossing a finishline 26.2 miles from a start line once or twice.  Victory in this case is still hitting the pavement (or being otherwise physically active) 10, 15, 20 years down the road.

Despite the “time-limited” marketing on P90X or Insanity or any of the other 90-day, 60-day, 6-weeks Beachbody programs– the point is not to get as ripped as you can in 90 days, it’s to see what you can do this 90 days, then set goals for the next, and the next and the next.  Ultimately finding a program or combination of programs that works for you.

BeachBody INSANITY

I did one of the Insanity Workouts today in place of one of the P90X cardio work outs. OH MY GOD! It is brutal, evil, crazy, and damn, ONE HELL OF A WORKOUT!

As a Beach Body Coach, I get Demo disks of new routines sent to me, and doing this workout made me a believer. As soon as the workout was done, I jumped online and bought the whole series.

My Next 60 day cycle will be INSANITY. Shawn T. you have outdone yourself. You are SICK!

30 more days of P90X, then comes INSANITY!

P90X Cycle 5 Week 3 update! (And yes a creepy picture)

This has been a crazy several weeks.  After going to Ukraine to train with Igor Kurinnoy, I came back about 13 pounds lighter than when I arrived.  (I had hurt my knee about 3 weeks before the trip, and decided to take it easy and eat out for dinner almost every day, this took me from 209 to 217 before the trip)  What I though was going to be a Sambo camp, turned out to be a Sambo Conditioning Camp.  This was designed to not only improve our Sambo skills, but to get us competition ready.  (Yeah, it was brutal)

So, instead of coming home (after 2 days of eating, drinking and travel, I weighed in at 204.5 and 15.5% body fat) and slacking, I decided on starting a new P90X cycle on June 1st.  (and it was a Monday, made it really easy)  The big difference this time is that I have been staying very close to the recommended P90X diet.  (There have been a couple of slip ups, but nothing crazy.  I am way more in the diet than off)
