Free Webinar with MV Nutrition

Several years ago, just after I started running, I was digging myself into a ditch trying to lose weight and train “on my own.” After a stress fracture and monumental physical crash, I ended up at MV Nutrition, meeting with Manuel Villacorta, who came highly recommended from a few marathoners and triathletes I’ve known.  In fact, it was meeting with Manuel that inspired me to get the skills necessary to help people on their wellness journey, and many of his common-sense approaches are part of the message I promote to this day.

Manuel is hosting a FREE, hour-long webinar on Thursday, Jan 6, Noon-1PM PST, and I highly suggest you check it out if your goal this year is to lose weight for good.

Maximum Motivation 1- Keep it Fresh

This is a re-post of a multi-part series I did over on the Yahoo! Blog about motivation. While most people hit the New Year with loads of it, you want to have the tools in your back pocket for when that motivation might wane.  Of course, if you want the ultimate in motivation, join the FitLifeSF 10-Week Challenge, and let’s work with each other to reach our goals!

No matter how dedicated you are to your healthy, fit lifestyle, there are times when your motivation wanes. As the days get shorter and the temps drop, many people find the couch and comfort food beckoning more than salads and sneakers. So, for the next several posts I’m going to outline some tactics for staying motivated, starting with this week’s edict: Keep it Fresh!

P90X Cycle 5 Week 3 update! (And yes a creepy picture)

This has been a crazy several weeks.  After going to Ukraine to train with Igor Kurinnoy, I came back about 13 pounds lighter than when I arrived.  (I had hurt my knee about 3 weeks before the trip, and decided to take it easy and eat out for dinner almost every day, this took me from 209 to 217 before the trip)  What I though was going to be a Sambo camp, turned out to be a Sambo Conditioning Camp.  This was designed to not only improve our Sambo skills, but to get us competition ready.  (Yeah, it was brutal)

So, instead of coming home (after 2 days of eating, drinking and travel, I weighed in at 204.5 and 15.5% body fat) and slacking, I decided on starting a new P90X cycle on June 1st.  (and it was a Monday, made it really easy)  The big difference this time is that I have been staying very close to the recommended P90X diet.  (There have been a couple of slip ups, but nothing crazy.  I am way more in the diet than off)

ProjectTrish: The Prologue “How Did I Get Here?”

Meet Trish, a friend of ours from Karaoke. Trish is a rockin’ chick (so much so that she and her boyfriend adopted my dearheart, Guillermo P. Meowmix when Rob’s allergies stood in the way of our co-habitation.) She sings in a band, Psychokitty, of which Dave is also a member. She’s got a great life, but one problem- her low energy and weight are keeping her from performing at her best. And then there’s the matter of a killer pair of custom-made leather pants that she really wants to get back into. About a month ago, she approached me and Rob with a challenge- “You tell me what to do, and I’ll do it. I want you guys to whip me into shape.” So starts the journey we are calling “Project Trish.”

In today’s entry, we’ll hear from Trish how she got to this place. In future entries, you’ll hear more details on what kind of a program Trish is on and what successes and challenges she is facing along the way. There will be standard blog entries, videos, and more. We hope you’ll find in Trish’s story the inspiration to start on your own journey to wellness.
